The Amos Lee series is written by Adeline Foo a Singaporean writer. Amos Lee is a witty, young boy who is reluctantly pushed into writing a diary. What begins as a boring task soon turns into a collection of hilarious and exciting entries. When his mother gets a new job and Amos starts accompanying her on assignments. Along the way, he shares his honest thoughts about school, friendships, family, and everyday life in Singapore.

The book follows a whole year in Amos’s life, blending his funny and heartfelt diary entries with interesting facts and insights about Singapore. Early in the book, he writes about New Year traditions and his visit to the Night Safari, the world’s first nocturnal zoo. Later, he recounts the earthquake in China on 12 May and his grandparents’ reactions, as well as watching the Beijing Olympics. The year concludes with the excitement of the world’s first Grand Prix Night Race in Singapore, bringing together Amos’s personal experiences and major global events.

At the back of the book is a glossary filled with Singaporean words and their meanings. It encourages readers to flip between the story and the glossary, discovering exciting new phrases along the way while learning more about the unique culture and languages of Singapore.

It is a relaxing and enjoyable read, with valuable cultural insights woven throughout.
